Green Gown Awards
The Green Gown Awards recognise the very best work in sustainability from universities and colleges. We are proud of the University’s Young Enterprise programme that won top prize for Enterprise at the 2020 Green Gown Awards and are five-time UK and Ireland Award winners (two of these also winning in the International category).
First to ISO 14001:2015 accreditation
We are proud to have been the first University to achieve the new and more challenging ISO 14001:2015 certification standard for our Environmental Management System. We have continued with this accreditation & can proudly announce that we are recertified for 2022-25.
Living Wage Employer
Manchester Met is proud to be an accredited Living Wage Employer. We join nearly 6,000 organisations as an accredited employer demonstrating our continued commitment to decent work and in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI)
We are a proud to be a member of the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI). UNAI aligns institutions of higher education with the United Nations in supporting and contributing, through research and education, to the realization of the Organisation’s goals and mandates, namely through undertaking activities related to the ten UNAI principles.
Times Higher Education Impact Rankings
Manchester Met are proud to have been ranked top 200 globally for our second submission to the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings. THE Impact Rankings are the only global performance table assessing universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), across three broad areas: research, outreach and stewardship. In total, 1410 institutions from across the world have submitted data to participate in the 2022 (third edition) Impact Rankings.
Responsible Futures Accredited
We were one of the first higher education providers become an NUS Responsible Futures Accredited institution– reflecting our commitment to embedding environmental sustainability and social responsibility in both our formal and informal curriculum. Through our continued collaboration with the Union, we have been accredited since 2015 and have held the host partnership in 2021-22.

Electronics Watch
We support Electronics Watch, which brings public sector organisations together with civil society monitors in production regions to protect the rights of workers in their electronics supply chains. We are affiliated through the North Western Universities Purchasing Consortium.
Food Made Good
We are a two star food made good status organisation, awarded by the Sustainable Restaurant Association, which recognises our commitment to sustainability across sourcing, society and environment throughout our catering and hospitality services.
Carbon Literate Organisation
We are proud to be an accredited Carbon Literate Organisation (bronze). We are committed to Carbon Literacy and to support the development of a Carbon Literate workforce.
Carbon Literacy Training Organisation
We are an expert Carbon Literacy Training Organisation and our Carbon Literacy team became the first Carbon Literacy Consultants across the university sector.
Can’t Buy My Silence Organisation
We are proud to be affiliated with the Can’t Buy My Silence organisation, helping practice and promote this important message.
