Biography

Who I am

I am a Senior Lecturer and Unit Leader in Retail and Marketing. I joined Manchester Met. in 2019 and predominantly teach on the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship programme. 

I previously worked as a senior manager in the retail industry for almost two decades, with high profile brands such as Levi Strauss & Co. and Hamleys of London. 

Outside of work, I enjoy taking full advantage of the vast array of arts, culture and music here in the vibrant city of Manchester. 

Interests and Expertise

I bring a wealth of industry expertise and practitioner knowledge to my role at Manchester Met. Business School. I have worked in a variety of senior leadership roles which inform my teaching practice. I aim to bring academic concepts to life with real-world experience to contextualise students’ learning. 

My key area of interest is contemporary issues in retailing, with specific reference to leadership, strategy and retailer response to change in the uncertain business environment.

I am also a Dissertation Supervisor and a Personal Tutor, offering academic support and employability guidance to help students meet their academic goals and career aspirations.

Teaching

I have over four years’ experience teaching and supervising students in Retail and Marketing programmes. I am also a Unit Leader in the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship programme which employs a blended learning strategy.  In this role I develop courses which provide the flexibility required by retail business professionals to work and study simultaneously.

I aspire to help students achieve their maximum potential, as both academics and practitioners, with an inclusive and supportive approach.

My commitment to providing a high quality student experience, through effective approaches to learning and teaching, was recognised by the award of Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2020.
