Participatory Youth Practice: A new framework for youth justice

Thursday 26th October 2017, 9:30am – 3pm
Benzie building (4th floor), Manchester Metropolitan University

Join the Greater Manchester Youth Justice University Partnership (GMYJUP) on the 26th October for the our third GMYJUP annual conference: Participatory Youth Practice: A new framework for youth justice, hosted at Manchester Metropolitan University.

This year we will be launching GMYJUP’s new Participatory Youth Practice framework of practice for youth justice at our annual conference.

Participatory Youth Practice is an evidence based, research-informed framework of youth justice practice, developed through co-creation and participatory research with young people in Greater Manchester. It uses young people’s lived experiences, supported by academic theory and research evidence, to formulate a new approach to youth justice.

This year’s conference will introduce you to the new framework, including…

We will share our eight youth-led principles of youth justice practice, explained in the words of young people themselves through their creative lyric writing and presented in a creative and engaging video that can be used with practitioners, stakeholders and partner agencies as well as with young people themselves.

We will introduce our engagement and out-of-court frameworks and a suite of practitioner resources which will help you apply the Participatory Youth Practice framework in practice. We will showcase our new GMYJUP website, and explain how you will be able to access the resources.

Other confirmed speakers include Associate Professor Leanne Dowse, inaugural Chair in Intellectual Disability and Behaviour Support at University of New South Wales (UNSW) and Hannah Smithson, Professor of Criminology and Youth Justice at Man Met.

So join academics, practitioners, policy makers and sector leaders to hear more about how we’re supporting Greater Manchester to become a beacon of excellence for Youth Justice research and practice.
