HOME Secretary Theresa May was in Crewe this week to support the Government announcement of the high speed HS2 rail.

At a private meeting, Dennis Dunn, Dean of MMU’s Cheshire campus, discussed the training and skills development needs to support the twenty year project costing over £32bn.

Dennis said, “This is perhaps the largest engineering project we will see in the UK within our lifetimes and during the meeting with the Home Secretary I was keen to impress upon her the important role that MMU can play in developing the skills base needed, across many subject disciplines, to support construction and operation of HS2.

“Our £70m of investment at the Cheshire campus in Crewe is a statement of our confidence in the sub-region and the announcement of Crewe as part of the Manchester link further supports the University strategy to be centred in both Manchester and Crewe.”
