Professor Andrew Gibson appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Science and Engineering

Manchester Metropolitan University is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Andrew Gibson as its new Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

Professor Gibson joins the University in February 2017 from the University of Manchester, where he is currently Head of the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering. Prior to this appointment he was Head of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Manchester from February 2009 until June 2012.

Professor Gibson has a DSc in Microwave Engineering and 25 years’ experience in researching and consulting over high power circuits for radar systems.

He gained international recognition for the application of multi-physics finite element techniques to high power, nonlinear, nonreciprocal ferrite components.

He has been appointed as Chair of the European Microwave Week 2016, a major international conference held in London. He has developed research interests in remanufacturing as applied to electrical and electronic equipment.

Professor Gibson said: “I am delighted to be joining Manchester Metropolitan as the new Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Science and Engineering. I am extremely passionate about science and engineering, and excited about the prospects at Manchester Metropolitan. It is a very exciting time for science and engineering in the city and the University is well-placed to take advantage of these opportunities.”

Andy not only has a strong research profile but also extensive experience of science and engineering education.
