Can you tell us about your Sport and Exercise science Journey so far?

Growing up, sport was always a huge factor in my house, whether it was on TV or participating. I’ve been around it ever since I can remember. I studied BSc (Hons) Manchester City Community Football Coaching because it sounded really fascinating. I had never seen or heard about anything like it before. It’s truly unique and the work experience and volunteering opportunities sounded too good to pass up.

I thoroughly enjoy the course. Everything we learn about in lectures and seminars is applied on the pitch, whether that’s through practical sessions, being able to go out into the community as part of work-based learning or the multiple volunteering opportunities alongside the support from the City in the Community coaches.

My achievement so far was been given the opportunity to represent City in the Community and carry the Premier League trophy onto the pitch in 2018. I’ll never forget that opportunity. It was so rewarding to know that I’d been noticed for the little things I do and it motivates me to continue the momentum.

What do you like most about the Sport and Exercise Science industry?

Every day is different. No two days are the same and it makes it exciting as well as the people you meet along the way!

What advice would you give to prospective students considering studying this course?

Don’t be afraid to venture into the unknown. Speak to everyone you come across, whether they’re a coach or a guest speaker. Networking is valuable, grab every opportunity that comes your way, put the work in and it will pay off in the end.

What does diversity in Sport and Exercise science mean to you?

Everything. There are not many Asian women involved in the Sport and Exercise Science industry and been able to be a pioneer and inspire others is humbling. Being able to change the narrative and pave the way is an experience that is second to none.

Sport gives you life skills and takes you further than you can imagine. It’s not just about the health benefits: it’s the leadership skills, it’s the confidence and it’s the other benefits that can take you further in life. As children, we imitate and look up to others and if there is a lack of representation, people won’t have the motivation to go on and inspire others.

What are your plans for the future?

I hope that I can gain full-time employment with City in the Community. They’re an amazing organisation and every work-based placement has been second to none. It’s an amazing feeling to be able to help others through the power of football and hopefully, I can inspire a few people along the way!

Prepare for a career with impact.
