Masters in Social Research available from September 2017

Led by the Faculty of Education and accompanied by a consortium of partners including the White Rose Doctoral Training Partnership (WRDTP) and Economic & Social Research Council the MA aims to produce researchers that will lead the way for future study into the social sciences.

The MA Social Research is designed to meet the Economic and Social Research Council’s new postgraduate training and development requirements. The council shapes public sector policies and enables businesses, voluntary bodies and other organisations to become more effective as well as shaping wider society through independent, high quality research.

Manchester Metropolitan University has pooled esteemed academics from a variety of faculties; including the Faculties of Education, Health, Psychology and Social Care and Arts and Humanities. This shared knowledge and learning provides relevant research across a number of social science disciplines. Collaboration executed in this way furthers the Faculty of Education’s philosophy of knowledge exchange and collective teaching.

The WRDTP will work in partnership across all faculties involved with the programme to provide first-class teaching in a vibrant, intellectual environment for postgraduates to peruse their research supported by renowned academics.

Professor Martin Jones, Director of WRDTC stated: “Combining the experience of the White Rose Universities (Leeds, Sheffield, and York) previously involved in the White Rose Doctoral Training Centre (DTC) with new partners such as Manchester Metropolitan University, the WRDTP will deliver excellent supervision, first-class discipline and cutting-edge interdisciplinary research and transferable skills training”.

Professor Jones believes the White Rose Doctoral Training Partnership will ‘produce doctoral graduates with outstanding skills and flexibility, with the imagination to tackle the thorniest challenges confronting the social sciences.’
