My profile

Biography

After a six-year career with Accenture, a global management consulting firm, I completed an MA in Development Studies (International Development) and a PhD in the International Political Economy of Development at the University of Manchester. I joined the Manchester Met Business School in January 2011 as an ESRC Management and Business Development Fellow (one of only sixteen in the UK), a postdoctoral programme to undertake research to narrow the gap between the fields of international political economy and international business. I have done research and published in the fields of international political economy and development, examining for instance, the role of the ‘developing’ countries in the evolution of our current system of global economic governance (with Professor Anthony Payne), and the role of industrial policy in attract more developmental forms of foreign direct investment (with Professor Heinz Tüselmann).  The latter research has generated impact, which can be read about here: https://www2.mmu.ac.uk/business-school/research/real-world-impact/developing-smarter-policies/

I’m passionate about teaching, and lead both the Political Economy of International Business (postgraduate) and International Business Theory and Strategy (undergraduate).  I also am the programme leader for a new MSc in International Development and Global Business.  In 2017, I was shortlisted for the Teacher of the Year award, for my teaching at MMU: https://www.theunionmmu.org/your-voice/teaching-awards/past-winners
