My profile

Biography

I joined Manchester Metropolitan University in 2018, and I teach on various marketing and branding units across all levels.

I have over twenty years of experience in industry, and have held various sales and marketing roles in retail, online, and B2B. I aspire to bring my practical experience into my teaching, thereby illuminating academic theory with real-world conditions and encouraging contextualisation for future employability. I try to ground perception of academic and theoretical concepts by using environmental positioning - this is extremely helpful in colouring relevance for students. My academic interests relate to space and place, sensory and embodied experience, urban geographies, human geographies, social practice, all things green space, and the many associated marketing conversations. I am currently conducting research into non-visual sensory influences upon the consumption of place through a

place marketing perspective, using non-representational theory as a conceptual lens.

Teaching

I teach on various units related to Marketing, Branding, Sustainability, and Research at Levels 4, 5, and 6, and I supervise Level 6 and Level 7 (Masters) Research Projects.

I currently lead a level 4 unit (Understanding the Customer Experience) which introduces new students to the basics of marketing theory, and presents the opportunity to manage and develop the use of key fundamental academic skills.

I co-lead a Level 6 version of Understanding the Customer Experience, which takes student further into the world of Experiential Marketing, Sensory Marketing, and the Experience Economy.

I lead the level 6 Negotiated Business Project (Advanced) unit for our Chartered Manager Degree apprentices, which guides students as they conduct a Practical Research Project. This is a considerable piece of work for our industry apprentices, offering valuable pragmatic experience of research protocol and report writing, leading to a practical output which solves or improves an industry based issue. The Practical Research Project forms the basis of our apprentices End Point Assessment.
