The Use of VR for Home-based Pulmonary Rehabilitation for COPD Patients

Background

Patient Memoirs, a Cumbrian Medical Practice, look to explore the effectiveness of VR in facilitating home-based pulmonary rehabilitation for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) patients. 

Challenge

Research on patient’s engagement with rehabilitative VR training. 

Creative approach

The Creative AR VR Hub will conduct research with elderly patients undergoing home-based treatment using VR.  The focus will be on patients’ adoption, experience and satisfaction.

Outcome

The project will run in 2018 to evaluate a state-of-the-art VR health training application. Findings will contribute to the growing area of research and practice, with regard to the successful implementation of VR in home-based rehabilitation.  This has the potential to revolutionise the implementation of patient training throughout the NHS, leading to increased patient engagement with reduced need for hospital admissions.
