The Language Centre offers a variety of commercial language courses and language-related professional training. We are part of the Department of Languages, Information and Communications which allows us to deliver research-informed teaching and draw on the expertise of academics in the field of language learning and teaching.
The Language Centre delivers a wide range of British Council-accredited 'English as a Foreign Language' courses (EFL, EAP and ESP) to current and prospective MMU students, as well as for a number of high-profile external clients from around the globe. See our English Courses.
The Centre is also home to a thriving modern foreign language programme, which is open to the general public and for which MMU students, staff and alumni can benefit from a discounted fee. Check out our Evening Classes in Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Urdu, Italian, French or Spanish. All classes are taught by native speakers of the language.
Our teachers are qualified teaching professionals with many having experience themselves of learning a second or third language, and studying and working abroad. We also have a high number of native foreign language-speaking staff who lend the Centre a truly international and multicultural atmosphere.
Emma Bentley - Director of the Language Centre
"I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome you personally to the Language Centre at MMU and I am delighted that you are considering one of our courses. Whether you are looking for English language support, wanting to learn a new language or improve your existing skills, or you have identified a specific training need for a group of your students or teachers, I am confident that our team has the expertise to help you. I find it immensely rewarding to be able to speak in another language and to be able to share the culture of the speakers of that language, but it is also rewarding to have the chance to inspire others. The Language Centre offers a friendly and supportive learning environment and we are committed to working with each individual to help you realise your full potential."
