MA Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
English language teacher
"The support and opportunities that I have received from Man Met have been outstanding, I would highly recommend the MA TESOL to anybody who aspires to become a long-term English language teacher."
The most satisfying aspect of my course was that of sharing opinions with lecturers and classmates alike, in depth regarding various topics of study. The course also allows students to select personalised units, such as Materials and Course Design, Vocabulary and Technology. As a result, one can create a professional portfolio of work, either in the form of a prepared language course or as a professional blog on TESOL. I also had the chance to deepen my knowledge of important areas for my career; I highly believe that these skills will be valuable in the teaching world.
I believe that the MA has helped me become a better performer (by means of an academic poster), and has helped me improve upon my time management skills. Furthermore, I have refined my teaching approach and I have become a reflective practitioner.
During my time at university, I participated in events as an MA scholar, I was a participant at the Conversation Club organised by the Language Centre and I was a member of the Mature Student Society.
My top tip is to be prepared for an interesting and challenging course that will deepen your knowledge of the profession. I would strongly recommend gathering some experience of teaching before starting the course, as it will allow you to convert your experience into reflective practices.
