The University’s flagship ILL Programme aims to further develop inclusive leadership practice. It provides the tools to our management community to be intentionally inclusive leaders who champion equality, diversity and inclusion through enabling a transformative employee journey.
Aurora - Future, Change, Growth

Aurora Women's Leadership Development Programme

Aurora is Advance HE's leadership development initiative for women and those who identify as a woman. It is run as a unique partnership bringing together leadership experts, higher education providers and research institutes to take positive action to address the under-representation of women in leadership positions in the sector.

We are proud to have been providing this development opportunity to our employees for over ten years.

Stellar HE Targeted Leadership Programme

Delivered by Diversity Practice, Stellar HE is targeted at Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) individuals who aspire to senior leadership positions in Higher Education. It is aimed at Professional Support Staff, Academics and Researchers at a middle to senior management level.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Learning Hub

The Hub provides a wide range of digital resources and e-learning courses focussing on key EDI topics to develop your knowledge and awareness to help all colleagues at Manchester Met champion equity, diversity and inclusion. Available modules includes: addressing bias, allyship, cultural awareness, menopause, neurodiversity and non-binary awareness.

Wellbeing

Our free confidential and impartial Employee Assistance Programme, LifeWorks is available 24/7, 365 days of the year. The counselling service is there to help staff with short-time issues to access psychological support.

Gender / Gender Identity / Gender Reassignment

Religion or Belief

  • The Chaplaincy Service provide support to employees of faith but also of no faith along with access to volunteering schemes and other activities that provide development and support opportunities. 
  • Our Diversity Calendar identifies major religious festivals/holidays that are important to our employees and students. We are mindful of these dates when planning any activities, meetings, events or tasks.
  • We have Guidance on support employees during Ramadan.

Working Parents and Carers

  • Carers Passport – providing a framework to support employees to balance their caring responsibilities with their work.
  • Working Parents and Carers Staff Forum: hosts lots of resources. The forum also has done some insightful work of how to deal with pregnancy and baby loss.
  • Family Friendly and Flexible Leave Policies: policies and guidance related to family friendly practices and flexible leave as well as the locations of the feeding spaces on University Campus. The provisions in place are for both employees and students.
     

Disability, Long-term ill-health, Mental Health and Neurodiversity

We have checklists and guidance to support employees and line managers and help them:

  • be aware of the type of support available for employees at the University
  • understand what reasonable adjustments can be made in the workplace to maximise the potential of disabled employees
  • be confident about managing colleagues
  • know where to go for more detailed help or advice

The Disabled Staff Forum is a supported group for employees to join and connect.

LGBTQ+ Equity

We are committed to creating a workplace that supports and celebrates our LGBTQIA+ staff.

The Rainbow Network aims to nurture, celebrate and showcase an inclusive, visible and active LGBTQ+ community at the University, both internally and externally through outward facing activities.
