How to manage your email wherever you are, whatever device you're using.

Staff and students have different ways to access their emails.

We've put together guides to the most common methods for managing your emails - and using Lynda.com video courses to take your Outlook and Office 365 skills to a whole new level.

Managing staff emails

Assigned a University PC? You'll find Microsoft Outlook has been installed - and this is your recommended option.

Otherwise, and on any device, you can manage your email in the web browser at outlook.mmu.ac.uk.

Managing your email at outlook.mmu.ac.uk

  • Username is your 8-digit University ID
  • Password is your University network password

First time logging in at outlook.mmu.ac.uk? You'll be asked for information including your timezone and country

Once you've logged in you can also manage Outlook's Calendar, People and Tasks.

Go to outlook.mmu.ac.uk

Alternative methods of accessing your University email are listed below.

Desktop and laptop computers

Office 365 ProPlus

This is the downloadable version of Office 365.

How to install Office 365 ProPlus

Mobile devices

Microsoft Outlook is available as an app for both Android devices, and Apple iPhones and iPads.

Search for 'Microsoft Outlook' in the Google Play store (Android), or App Store (Apple).

Configuring other email clients

Manchester Met uses Exchange mail servers.

That means you can set up any email client that supports Microsoft Exchange (also known as Exchange ActiveSync).

Each email client requests slightly different information. Here's a complete list of the settings you might need:

  • Server: outlook.mmu.ac.uk
  • Domain: ad.mmu.ac.uk
  • Email/Username: 'AD\(your 8-digit University ID)' - for example, AD\72817091
  • Password: your University network password

Good to know

  • If you're setting up an email client to manage your messages, it must be compatible with Exchange (or Exchange ActiveSync) mail servers. You cannot use clients that only support POP3 or IMAP protocols
  • Want to sync your University contacts and calendar items to your mobile device? They may overwrite that information already on your phone - so check your email client's user guide before proceeding
  • For security reasons you cannot auto-forward messages from your staff account to any other email address

Quarantined emails

We use a system called Barracuda to keep your email safe and secure.
