Biography

Kate is a former solicitor and specialises in Private Client and Property work.  She joined Manchester Law School in 2021 after ten years in private practice and sixteen years in higher education teaching.

At MLS, Kate leads the Legal Practice Course programme and teaches Property Law and Practice, Commercial Property, Land, Equity, Wills, Probate and the Administration of Estates and Solicitors Accounts.

Interests and expertise

As a ‘pracademic’, a practitioner who has moved into education, Kate’s research interests are founded in her practice expertise.  She is particularly interested in the role that an attorney can have in looking after the health and welfare decisions of a person who is not able to make these unaided.  This is a relatively new role for both lay and professional surrogates and presents difficult challenges beyond those encountered by an attorney who is responsible for financial management alone.

Kate is keen to develop teaching materials which bring legal theory and practice to life in an educational environment.  A lively classroom is encouraged!
