Dr Mamun Rashid

Dr Mamun Rashid obtained B.Sc and M.Sc. in Chemistry from Shahjalal University of Science & Technology in Bangladesh. Following graduation he worked at Bangladesh University of Science and Engineering as a Lecturer in Chemistry until he undertook an MSc in Chemistry at University of Leeds, funded by FCO-SOROS Open Society-University of Leeds.Dr Rashid completed his PhD in Electro Analytical Chemistry at the University of Teesside. The research study was involved in the design, fabrication and electrophoretic separation integrated with detection in a single slot disposable microfluidic device for neurotransmitters detection. In this research study, he used HPLC (UV-Vis), GC-MS, LC-MS, ICPMS, electrochemistry (AC and DC) and class 100 clean room facility for the sensor development in the analytical application.

At University of Teesside, as a Marie Curie Research Fellow and Research Assistant he was involved in several EU funded projects for the fabrication of polymer based microfluidic devices for analytical applications. As a special lecturer in Chemistry, Dr Rashid was involved in small and big group teaching and assessment.

Dr Rashid worked as Academic Development Advisor (Applied and Natural science) and module leader (Analytical Methods and Instrumentation) at University of Highlands and Islands, where he was responsible for curriculum development with interactive teaching methods and learning materials for foundation course, B.Sc. and M.Sc students.

In 2014, Dr Rashid was appointed as Teaching Fellow in Chemistry at University of Nottingham. As a teaching fellow, Dr Rashid’s key responsibilities were to plan and deliver teaching in a variety of settings including small group tutorials, lectures and laboratories. As a member of Teaching Innovation Group, he was involved in developing teaching through a variety of means, including online interactive learning materials development, collecting student evaluation data and participating in the School peer observation scheme.

In 2016, Dr Rashid was appointed as Programme Support Tutor (Chemistry & Forensic Science) at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Dr Rashid is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and qualified first- aider.
