Dr Karl McLaughlin is Senior Lecturer in Spanish (Translation and Interpreting) at Manchester Metropolitan University. His keen interest in Spanish literature of the Golden Age has led him to co-author a well-received modern edition of the works of Catalina Ramírez de Guzmán. In addition to being an academic, he is a professional interpreter and translator as well as a journalist. He is passionate about the subjects he teaches and he is able to bring to them an up to date, real-world view of the profession(s). His personal interests include politics and - in general - all things related to Spain and the Spanish-speaking world. He is a qualified football coach and has a keen interest in the vast majority of sports, particularly football, basketball and athletics. His work has taken him to over 50 countries the length and breadth of the world, including most of South America.
