Last month we announced the launch of the Superbia Scholarship programme in partnership with the Sexuality Summer School at The University of Manchester. Each year, two students will be awarded a Superbia Scholarship to attend the summer school, and we are thrilled to announce the successful applicants for 2019:

Candice Buchanan is an MA Linguistics and English student at Manchester Metropolitan University. Her research interests involve intersectionality and the representation of black, queer womanhood in literature.

Eleanor Green from the University of Manchester is researching queer theory and Samuel Beckett, with a special focus on the writing of Elizabeth Freeman, who is one of the special guests at this year's Summer School

Greg Thorpe, Superbia Project Manager, said:

"Education is such a crucial part of culture, and an area that Superbia is excited to support. We are lucky to have the annual Sexuality Summer School at the University of Manchester which really foregrounds LGBT+ academia and creative practices. We were thrilled to receive such strong applications for our inaugural Superbia Scholarship year. Congratulations to Candice and Eleanor, we wish them both a productive Summer School experience."

Professor Jackie Stacey, Director of the SSS, said:

"The Sexuality Summer School at the University of Manchester is delighted to have the support offered by these Superbia Scholarships for two postgraduate students from the city to attend this year's summer school on Queer Dialogues (20-24th May). This is an exciting opportunity for the students and is part of an ongoing partnership with Superbia and Manchester Pride. It confirms the strength of the growing networks and collaborations about queer arts in the city."
