MA Multimedia Journalism
Marketing Assistant at Manchester Metropolitan University
“Don’t give up on your dreams, the route may change along the way but the destination is still the same.”
I studied Drama at undergraduate level so I really wanted to study an English based subject to enhance my writing skills and broaden my career options. I chose the Multimedia Journalism course because the world is changing. The latest developments in online technology and the take-over of social media meant I needed a course that would equip me for an ever-changing working environment, and one that my writing could adapt to.
I now work in the marketing department at Manchester Met’s Cheshire campus. Producing news articles for a range of platforms is a big part of my role. I have created a range of work on a variety of subjects and have now had my work published in the Crewe Chronicle, The Stoke Sentinel, the Manchester Met website and the Cheshire campus website.
The university gave me the tools to become a confident, adaptable and professional writer. I had the opportunity to work alongside prominent media professionals and make key contacts within the industry. The most important skills I gained through my degrees were confidence, knowledge, adaptability, accurate and literate writing skills, extensive knowledge development and research skills.
I would tell other students that if you can master the art of Journalism, you have the power to promote change and there is a global platform ready and willing to listen.
Never stop learning or building on your knowledge and skills, take advantage of resources and training. Don’t give up on your dreams, the route may change along the way but the destination is still the same.
The help I received from my lecturers and which is still ongoing today is paramount.
The course guided me on how to establish myself independently by learning how to set up a blog, website, and develop a specialism.
