The Language Centre offers a variety of English and modern foreign language courses to external and Manchester Met students.

Pre-sessional English Our pre-sessional courses are open to both Man Met offer holders and individual students looking to develop their English language and academic skills.
Evening Language Classes We offer language classes in French, Spanish, German, Italian, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, Urdu and Russian.
CPD and Teacher Training If you’re a foreign teacher of English, need English in your professional or academic career, or are a group looking for an English language programme tailored to your needs, The Language Centre has the expertise to help you.

The Language Centre's Pre-sessional courses, Coaching for Academic English programme and bespoke language courses are accredited by the British Council to teach English as a Foreign Language. We offer a range of Pre-sessional courses of different lengths for students looking to improve their English language and study skills before starting University. We offer general English, English for Specific Purposes and Teacher Development courses to clients from around the globe. The Language Centre is also home to a thriving modern foreign language programme, which is open to the general public as well as Manchester Met staff and students. We warmly welcome you to a truly international and multicultural atmosphere to develop your language ability.

Manchester Met students can take advantage of our free Coaching for Academic English programme or consider taking English (or another foreign language) as part of your degree with Uniwide.


Coaching for Academic English A free programme for all current Manchester Met students who do not have English as a first language. You can also earn Futures points from your attendance
Uniwide Languages A fantastic opportunity for all students (and staff) at Manchester Met to develop foreign language skills. You can study a 15- or 30-credit Uniwide Language unit as part of you degree, or if you don’t have the option to study a language as part of your degree, you can sign up for Uniwide Extra for a small fee.
