Coming soon: 2018 Teaching Awards

The 2018 Teaching Awards are coming soon, and students will shortly be invited to nominate their tutors for the annual students’ union teaching awards ceremony.

The 2018 Teaching Awards are coming soon, and students will be invited to start nominating their teachers for the annual awards ceremony, which is now in its eighth year.

Every year, students share their stories about the individuals and teams who go out of their way to make their learning experience the best it can be – the people they think deserve to be recognised and rewarded. Nominations will be open from Monday 12 February until midnight on Wednesday 7 March.

Last year The Union received 934 nominations across all faculties, describing staff as “inspiring”, “devoted” and “encouraging”.

There are ten different awards, ranging from Teacher of the Year to Outstanding Teaching for Employability. A panel of students, Student Officers and other representatives judge entries anonymously, and shortlisted candidates will be revealed before the Easter break.

In 2017, there was success in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, with Haydn Insley winning Outstanding Innovation in Teaching, David Heaton winning Best Personal Tutor and the Sustainable Production and Consumption module winning Outstanding Teaching for Sustainability.

The highly anticipated awards ceremony will be held at The Union on Thursday 24 May, and this year all students and staff at Manchester Met are invited to the evening to celebrate excellence in teaching.
