Professor Richard Koeck

Professor and Chair in Architecture and the Visual Arts in the School of Architecture, University of Liverpool

Richard Koeck is Professor and Chair in Architecture and the Visual Arts in the School of Architecture, University of Liverpool. He is Director of the Centre for Architecture and the Visual Arts (CAVA) and Associate Head of School (Research & Impact) of the School of the Arts. His interdisciplinary writings and activities examine urban phenomena in relation to the visual culture of cities in areas such as architectural/urban design, film, place marketing and outdoor advertising. Methodologically, his work is underpinned by the use of techniques and theories that bridge analogue and digital culture, including digital film productions, animations, augmented/virtual reality and locative media applications, digital mapping (GIS/GPS) and the constructing of digital databases. Prof Koeck won numerous national research grants that were dedicated to the study of cities, film and digital media and he is editor, co-/author of several critical texts, including Cine|Scapes: Cinematic Spaces in Architecture and Cities (Routlege, 2012).
